Field Notes: Returning to the Galápagos

Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of returning to the Galápagos three times. Each visit deepened my understanding of this living laboratory of nature. Each journey revealed something new, not just about the islands, but about how I sense the world around me.



The islands have a way of slowing time, of reminding you that evolution isn’t just a concept, but something you can feel beneath your feet, in every tide and encounter. Here, every element speaks. The rhythm of the waves against volcanic rock, the stillness before a hammerhead appears, the scent of volcanic sulfur carried on the wind. These islands awaken the senses in a way few places can.

Through film and photography, I’ve tried to translate those sensations. The quiet awe of being underwater, the texture of rock formations, the feeling of standing at the edge of a world still wild. The Galápagos keep teaching me that to understand a place, you must first listen to it.
